The Center for Wisdom’s Women, a drop in center in Lewiston, announces the celebration of its 2nd anniversary with an Open House on October 23 from 10:00-12:00. The Center was begun by The Daughters of Wisdom as Wisdom’s Center in 1999.  When it closed in June of 2008, a group of local friends of the Center took up the task of raising funds and reopened that fall on a part time basis.

This past year the Center has expanded its hours of operation and has seen a growth in both numbers of women participants and programs. In 2009 the Center logged 1874 visits. In just the first half of 2010 it logged 1424 visits. An average of 19 volunteers staff the Center, giving over 200 hours monthly as hosts, teachers, and group leaders.

Regular activities include various small groups, support groups, health and wellness programs, a writing workshop, craft activities, scrap-booking, painting, and card making.  A holiday pumpkin carving party will be held at 5:00 on the 27th.  The full program schedule for October is posted on the center’s website at www.wisdomswomen.wpengine.com.   All programs at the center are free, no registration required.

The Center for Wisdom’s Women is a sacred and safe place that supports and empowers women.  It functions as a collaborative of women who work to build community for the purpose of bettering and enriching their lives. The Center offers warm hospitality, compassionate listening, personal and spiritual guidance that is respectful of all faith traditions, assistance in accessing local resources to meet needs, and encouragement toward healthy life choices. Through support groups, activities and programs, women have the chance to meet and network with others, build friendships, and support each other in their daily struggles.
