Position Announcement: Executive Director

The Center For Wisdom’s Women (CWW) is seeking a chief executive to lead our non-profit organization through a period of exciting expansion and growth. In the heart of downtown Lewiston, the Center offers safe and sacred opportunities for women in the community to heal from adverse life experiences, learn to thrive, and enrich each other’s lives.

Background

The CWW was founded 20 years ago by three sisters from the Daughters of Wisdom who wanted to offer women space to build community. The women’s center became a staple in the lives of many and grew so quickly that in 2008 the sisters were no longer able to maintain it. The CWW would have closed in 2008, however, a dedicated group of volunteers ensured it stayed open. It is now a secular, independent non-profit with 4,000 visits per year, welcoming 142 guests last year alone.  

Key Programs

• Drop-in Center: Run by and for women, the drop-in center brings hope and joy, life and light to to lives of women who would fall through the cracks of the social services system. Through daily programs from cooking to art therapy, access to basic needs and conversation, women learn they are not alone.
• Herban Works: A social enterprise cooperatively managed by women that provides leadership development, skill-building, and meaningful paid work.  Healing products are made by women and made to heal.  
• Sophia’s House: Targeted to open by January 2020, Sophia’s House is a long-term residential recovery community with the goal of supporting and empowering women who are survivors of addiction, trafficking, and incarceration through holistic healing in a shared community.

Key Responsibilities

The Executive Director of the Center for Wisdom’s Women is responsible for the overall organizational success by providing strategic, operational, ethical, and inspirational leadership consistent with the mission, values, policies, applicable laws and regulations, and contractual obligations of the Center for Wisdom’s Women (including Herban Works and Sophia’s House and applicable LLCs).

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate:

• Understands the myriad impacts of adverse childhood experiences on adult functioning and is able to continue implementation of trauma-informed principles throughout the organization.
• Skilled in compassionate-listening, conflict-resolution, self-care and attending to the spiritual dimension of wellness.
• Confident in providing stability to a growing and transitioning organization while attending to and fostering the development of supervisees, volunteers and guests.
• Comfortable in networking with community members, stakeholders, and businesses.
• Grounded in the local community.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Nonprofit management, public policy or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Demonstrated ability in fund development, marking, and communications
• Successful experience working with Board of Directors
• Experience establishing and nurturing strong donor and community relations
• Experience with the development and implementation of programming
• Excellent communication skills
• Financial management experience

Compensation Package: $50-58,000
